SUMMARY:9:30 PM - New Orleans Suspects
DESCRIPTION:Doors: 8:00 pm Show: 9:30 pm\n\nNew Orleans Suspects began playing together in 2009 as a pick-up band at the Maple Leaf in New Orleans. Comprised of some of the most seasoned\, highly respected players in NOLA\, the group called themselves The Unusual Suspects. Their chemistry was undeniable and by the summer of 2011 they decided to tour full-time\, renaming the band New Orleans Suspects. They quickly began attracting large crowds from San Francisco to New York. In five short years they’ve released four CDs and established themselves as one of New Orleans’ best supergroups.\n\n\n“Mean” Willie Green was the drummer for the Neville Brothers for over thirty years. His unparalleled style has helped shape New Orleans funk\, and his drumming has graced recorded tracks by dozens of artists\, including The Grateful Dead\, Bob Dylan\, Paul Simon and Edie Brickell. \nEric Vogel\, born and raised in New Orleans\, is inspired by the sounds of the city.  Inspired by his relationship with Regi and Victor Wooten\, Eric has played with everyone in the music business from blues with North Mississippi Allstars to funk with the Great Fred Wesley.   Eric is a Jedi on the bass.  His Kung Fu is VERY STRONG! \n  \nJake Eckert was the longtime lead guitarist in the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. Traveling the world\, he has performed everywhere from Palace Square in Russia to 2009 Grammy Awards ceremony. He has other talents as well\, receiving a Grammy Award in 2011 for recording engineer and producing albums for John Mooney\, Cedric Burnside\, and New Orleans Suspects\, among others. \n  \nCR Gruver is a classically trained pianist who immersed himself in New Orleans piano styles after touring with national bands such as Outformation and singer/songwriter Angie Aparo. Adept at James Booker-style piano and the swelling B-3 stylings of Art Neville\, Gruver has also become a well-regarded sideman for Leo Nocentelli of The Meters. \nJeff Watkins is an accomplished sax player\, engineer and producer. He spent twelve years leading the James Brown Band\, including Brown’s induction into the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame. He also worked for six years with Joss Stone as her producer\, engineer\, and bandleader. \nThe four albums New Orleans Suspects have released since 2011 include their eponymous debut studio album and a live  recording\, Caught Live at the Maple Leaf\, which made it into the iTunes® highly competitive “New and Noteworthy” page. \nThe band’s third recording Ouroboros\, released in October 2014\, is an all-original studio album that characterizes the band’s sound and puts a contemporary twist on the funk\, rock\, and R&B traditions of New Orleans music\, placing them in a class of their own. \nThe fourth and most recent album\, Kaleidoscoped\, released in September 2016 on both CD and vinyl\, is being hailed as their best and most original to date\, being added to over 100 radio stations in North America and receiving rave reviews. Both of these last two albums appear on New Orleans label “Louisiana Red Hot Records”.

SUMMARY:9:30 PM - The New Mastersounds
DESCRIPTION:Doors: 9:00 PM • Show: 9:30 PM \nTickets available at Eventbrite.com\, https://www.eventbrite.com/e/82744778861 \nABOUT THE NEW MASTERSOUNDS \nIn the late 1990’s\, guitarist and producer Eddie Roberts was running a club night in Leeds called “The Cooker.” When The Cooker moved into a new venue with a second floor in 1999\, there was space and the opportunity to put a live band together to complement the DJ sets. Simon Allen and Eddie had played together in 1997 as The Mastersounds\, though with a different bassist and no organ. Through friends and the intimate nature of the Leeds music scene\, Pete Shand and Bob Birch were added on bass and Hammond respectively\, and The New Mastersounds were born. Though it was raw\, and more of a boogaloo sound at first\, it was powerful from the start. Their first rehearsal was hot enough for Blow it Hard Records to release on two limited-edition 7” singles in 2000. \nFast-forward 15 years and the recorded catalogue boasts 24 more 7” singles\, 9 studio albums\, 2 live albums\, 1 remix album and 3 compilation albums\, released variously in UK\, USA and Japan\, where they continue to tour extensively. Joe Tatton\, another veteran of the Leeds scene\, joined back in 2007\, replacing Bob Birch on organ and piano. \nAs a band\, and as individuals\, they have collaborated or jammed with an impressive array of musicians DJs and producers\, including: Lou Donaldson (Blue Note)\, Corinne Bailey Rae (EMI)\, Quantic (Tru Thoughts)\, Carleen Anderson (Young Disciples / Brand New Heavies)\, Keb Darge & Kenny Dope (Kay Dee Records)\, John Arnold (Ubiquity)\, Mr Scruff (Ninja Tune)\, Snowboy (Ubiquity)\, Fred Everything (2020vision)\, Andy Smith (Portishead)\, James Taylor (JTQ)\, LSK (Faithless)\, Lack of Afro (Freestyle)\, Page McConnell (Phish)\, Grace Potter\, Karl Denson (The Rolling Stones / Lenny Kravitz)\, Melvin Sparks (Blue Note Records)\, Fred Wesley\, Pee Wee Ellis & Maceo Parker (JB’s)\, George Porter Junior\, Zigaboo Modeliste\, Art Neville (The Meters) and Ernest Ranglin. \nAs an example of the respect this band commands\, Peter Wermelinger – DJ\, collector\, and author of the crate-diggers’ bible The Funky & Groovy Music Lexicon – places the 2001 NMS track ‘Turn This Thing Around’ in his all-time top-ten tunes\, along with the likes of Eddie Harris\, Funkadelic\, and Herbie Hancock. The New Mastersounds are at the very top of an elite selection of acts that bring the true soul out of funk.

SUMMARY:9:30 PM - Toubab Krewe
DESCRIPTION:Doors 8:30 pm Show: 9:30 pm\n\n \nSome music cannot be found on a map or within iTunes categories. Some music is so original it seems snatched from the great\, invisible substrata that runs below all human activity\, a sound aching to be born without a flag or fixed allegiance – free\, questing\, overflowing with immediate\, tangible life. This is the music of Toubab Krewe\, the vibrant Asheville\, NC-based instrumental powerhouse that creates a sonic Pangaea that lustily swirls together rock\, African traditions\, jam sensibilities\, international folk strains and more. While nearly impossible to put into any box\, it takes only a few moments to realize in a very palpable way that one is face-to-face with a true original who recognizes no borders in a march towards a muscular\, original\, globally switched-on sound. \nFormed in 2005\, Toubab Krewe has tenaciously honed their craft through relentless touring and a fierce dedication to carving out something they can truly call their own. The fruits of this hard work can be heard on their latest release\, STYLO\, (March 2nd\, 2018). What Justin Perkins (kora\, kamelngoni\, guitar\, percussion)\, Terrence Houston (drumset)\, Drew Heller (guitar\, organ)\, Justin Kimmel (bass\, keys)\, and Luke Quaranta (djembe\, dunun\, sangban\, kenkeni\, kryn\, karenye) have wrought on STYLO reflects the many miles and musical journeys that have transpired since their last studio album\, TK2. \nThis is a band that actively draws inspiration from whatever source floats into their purview\, something they’ve exhibited in their decade and a half of heavy gigging\, including regular appearances at major U.S. festivals like Bonnaroo\, High Sierra\, Electric Forest\, Wakarusa\, Hulaween\, and abroad at such legendary gatherings as the Festival In The Desert in Essakane\, Mali\, Shanghai World Music Festival\, and Jam Cruise. Whether on their own or collaborating with luminaries like the Last Poets’ Umar Bin Hassan\, Uncle Earl’s Rayna Gellert\, or Weedie Braimah\, Toubab Krewe has already earned the attention and respect of a broad musical community. \nToubab carries echoes of African greats like Ali Farka Toure\, Orchestra Baobab and Salif Keita\, no doubt picked up during the group’s travels to study and live in Guinea\, Ivory Coast and Mali.  But what truly differentiates Toubab Krewe from other Statesiders inspired by African music is how they innovate on what they’ve learned instead of simply recreating tradition. Toubab Krewe carves out a new trail honoring the African originators they admire by making something alive and contemporary. \nwww.toubabkrewe.com

SUMMARY:8:30 PM - New Orleans Suspects
DESCRIPTION:Doors: 8:30 pm Show: 9:30 pm \n  \nNew Orleans Suspects began playing together in 2009 as a pick-up band at the Maple Leaf in New Orleans. In five short years they’ve released four CDs and established themselves as one of New Orleans’ best supergroups.\n \n“Mean” Willie Green was the drummer for the Neville Brothers for over thirty years. \n  \n\n \nJake Eckert was the longtime lead guitarist in the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. \n  \n \nCR Gruver is a classically trained pianist who immersed himself in New Orleans piano styles after touring with national bands such as Outformation and singer/songwriter Angie Aparo.
